Obituary For Rachel Anne Woods
Rachel Anne Woods (formerly Jeanne Anne Anderson), 83, passed away in Kirkland, Washington on October 13, 2021 from COVID-19. She was born in Muncie, IN on October 4, 1938 to Ernest and Irene (Laird) Anderson. She is deeply loved and will be missed every day by the family and friends that she leaves behind.
Rachel’s early life was spent in West Lafayette, IN and her high school years in Muncie, IN. She attended Butler University where she received her B.S. in Chemistry and went onto Purdue University for her M.S. in Experimental Psychology & Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
An accomplished mental health professional, Rachel was in private practice for over 40 years helping many people get through this thing called Life. She practiced in Vermont, Georgia, and finally Washington. Her genuine care for her clients shone through and many saw her as family. She also taught clinical psychology at the University of Vermont and Augusta College.
She was an avid musician, playing the viola, violin, & piano since her childhood. She played with symphonies in Augusta, GA and Issaquah, WA. In addition, Rachel played string quartets with friends, and occasionally in the pit orchestra for local amateur musicals.
In addition to her music – Rachel was an avid and voracious reader. She loved finding a good book and either recommending it or sending a copy to friends and family. She also had a tremendous passion for gardening and ensured there was always some aspect of this in her life no matter where she lived. Her other hobbies were camping, canoeing, beach combing, traveling.
Rachel is survived by her brother Max, daughter Rebecca, son Douglas, and 5 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Rachel’s name to the ASPCA or ACLU.
