Obituary For Alan Brice Corwin
Alan Brice Corwin died peacefully on July 7, 2021.
Born on April 30, 1946, Al grew up on a dairy farm. College in Massachusetts was followed by stateside Vietnam era Navy service. After a stint painting bridges Al visited his Navy pal Robert in the NW, and stayed. The “Seattle Freeze” didn’t freeze out Al. His gift for friendship soon won him many new pals and partners in crime. In 1981, Al started Anchor Computer, an early seller of PC’s. He and his crew were pioneers who introduced NW businesses and homes to the still-novel devices. A gifted and mostly self-taught software engineer, Al contracted with Boeing, AT&T, WAMU, the State of WA, and nonprofits.
A 6’4” redhead, Al stood out in a crowd. His spirit melding competitive drive, wit, and kindness, was unique. Al’s passions included: Grateful Dead, entrepreneurship, golf, opposing Trump, Twitter, dominoes, and community service. He was new member chair at Pierce County SCORE. Late-life thrills for Al were being named on a patent with his Innovaura colleagues and a golf course hole-in-one. Al was an example to us all, and those lucky enough to have known him miss him now more than words can express.
Survived by sisters Patricia Call and Virginia Shaftic and their children; stepson Devin Keski; and partner Jennifer Rubinstein. Al’s send-off will be at Tacoma Elks Lodge/Allenmore on August 8 at 3:00 pm.
